Parrish, Florida was originally founded prior to the Civil War. In 1867, Crawford Parrish, a rancher and orange farmer, moved to the area and the community was eventually named after him. In 1939, a Florida guide was published and the town was described as a citrus-fruit and vegetable shipping center. As a shipping center, railroads played an active role in the area's growth. The Florida Gulf Coast Railroad Museum is a main attraction and a celebration of this rich history. Today, residents of Parrish love their community because it has a rural feel with lots of open areas and green spaces.
